Andrew 'Andy' Lawrence Vuncanon - Lexington Dispatch
  • <p>Andrew "Andy" Lawrence Vuncanon, 43, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in Thomasville. He died at home surrounded by loving family. He lost his courageous fight with lung cancer, humbly accepted the promise of the resurrection and peacefully went to sleep.</p><p>A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 198 Fuller St., Lexington.</p><p>Andrew was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was baptized at 14 in Muskogee, Okla. He respected the rights of people to choose their own beliefs but savored those moments when he was able to share his faith with others. </p><p>After graduating from Malvern (Ark.) High School in 1987, Andrew went to work with friends, learning the painting trade. He honed his skills and eventually came to be a foreman for one of Tulsa's largest painting contractors. </p><p>In 1996, he married Dorothy Dunn of Danville, Va. They initially lived in Danville but eventually established their home in Thomasville. He was well-known as the owner of Canon Industrial Contracting, an industrial contracting company that serviced feed mill and grain elevator operations.</p><p>His greatest accomplishment he believed was his family, especially his two sons, Max, 12, and AJ, 9. He was a hands-on father who used every available moment being involved with his boys. Together with his wife, the children were home-schooled, thus providing them opportunity to travel with him throughout the U.S.</p><p>Andrew was an awesome father, a devoted husband, a beloved son and a caring brother. He will be greatly missed by his family, including his wife and sons of Thomasville; his mother, Mary Vuncanon of Malvern, Ark.; Brian Vuncanon (Mirna), his brother, along with their children, Jayden, Ashlyn, Jacob, Jessica and Jeremy, all of Hot Springs, Ark.; and his sister, Jeanne Marie Vuncanon and her sons, Micaiah and Jasper, of Gretna, Va.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, Andrew has requested that a donation be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to assist in the worldwide distribution of Bibles and Bible literature.</p><p>The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of the Piedmont and the numerous friends and family who have helped them during his battle with cancer.</p>
